I definitely agree with you. In Pieces is a debut with all the highs and lows of a debut. It's just personally baffling to me to hear that on someone we heard more competently and fully formed not too long ago. Do you think that in trying to sound like she's different from CXH Chlöe backfired?
Although we could've had Have Mercy at the end as a treat. Sonically it wouldn't sound out of place imo
Tbh a lot of this sounds like a continuation of where she and Halle were heading in the deluxe tracks for Ungodly Hour, particularly 80/20. So no, not really in that regard - if anything, I’d say that about the unused singles. I genuinely just think she had to quickly rework the album and maybe ended up in a bit of a creative rut. That’s probably why we ended up with the few things we did from the first album sessions.
